A Tribute

GM Antonio Ilustrisimo 1904 - 1997

Antonio "Tatang" Ilustrisimo

Grand Master, Kali Ilustrisimo

1904 - 1997

Again, though not unexpectedly, death has once more come among us. After a lingering illness, Grand Master Antonio "Tatang" Ilustrisimo on August 30, 1997 has silently closed the door of life and has departed from us never again to return. A feeling of profound loss and emptiness is shared by all those who knew this great warrior and teacher.

Sorrow fills our hearts at this sad moment, a sorrow that is deep and personal. He was truly a great champion, a most respected warrior and mentor. No one will ever embody all his traits, his highly acclaimed skills, his courage, his dedication to the Warrior Arts of the Philippines.

It is unfortunate that Tatang was unable to see the latest tribute to his art and skill, the book "Filipino Martial Culture". It is sad that he would never read how highly he was regarded by his own peers. It is unfortunate that just when the rest of the world discovers this great man, death has snatched him from our midst.

Though we all felt his severe loss very deeply, there exists that small measure of consolation that Tatang, generously and freely, left us the legacy of his revered and respected art.

Tatang, we thank you for your legacy. We are proud and honored to have been your students.

Hanggang sa muling pagkikita...
