Arnis Philippines has recently appointed Reynaldo S. Galang as Commissioner for Arnis Philippines (North America). An official letter of appointment effective July 1, 2004, was issued by Roland Dantes, Chairman for Committee on International Affairs during a meeting held at the Philippine HQ of Bakbakan International. The appointment was witnessed by: Christopher N. Ricketts, Vicente Sanchez, Rodel Dagooc, Jeremiah De La Cruz, Pepito Robas, Epifanio "Yuli" Romo, Ismael "Boy" Garcia, and David Foggie.
The group discussed the possibility of holding an International Arnis Competition immediately following the 23rd ASEAN Games which is scheduled to be held November 20 - 30, 2005 in the Philippines. Arnis Philippines and Bakbakan International will jointly work out the plans and details of this proposed event.
The Southeast Asian Sporting Federation (SEASF) has agreed to add 12 extra sports to next SEA Games, bringing the total number of events to 34. The 12 newly added events include badminton, canoeing/kayak, cycling, football, shooting, Pencak silat, petanque, rowing, table tennis, volleyball, sepak takraw and karate. The 22 sports proposed by the Philippines are athletics, swimming, stick martial arts, archery, wrestling, Wushu, boxing, basketball, rowing/traditional regatta, gymnastics, judo, fencing, Taekwondo, golf, chess, bowling, baseball, softball, horse racing, sport dancing, and billiards. However, the SEASF will not give final approval on the list for the next SEA Games’ sporting events until October, as well as to Games venues. Those events with less than five countries participating in will be rejected from the list. Tennis and weight lifting may possibly be added to the list after the federation’s meeting in October.
The 23 ASEAN Games is scheduled to be held November 20 - 30, 2005 in the Philippines.
